IF you're under the impression that a new stadium at Perdiswell Park is close, you're likely to be disappointed.

The planning inspectorate's overturning of the planning committee's decision to reject the proposal is a significant step forward, but there's still the question of a land transfer.

It is council-owned land which means any sale or lease "would have to be discussed and agreed" by councillors.

There's been much frustration, confusion and political mudslinging since the whole saga began, and now Labour leader Adrian Gregson has implied Tory Chris Mitchell, chair of the planning committee, should step down.

Cllr Mitchell's obvious errors in a letter to the Worcester News regarding the proposal was concerning. He seemed to confuse the Parsonage Way site with that at Nunnery Way, not an ideal move for someone in his position, particularly when he had the deciding vote for the Perdiswell application last summer.

He is adamant he won't be resigning anytime soon, but it will be interesting to see how this one develops.
